St Catherine’s Hospice

Bridlington Bay Lodge 9778

It was a damp day in Bridlington and the Vale of York was cloaked in an autumn fog, but that did not deter the members, visitors, wives and guests assembling early at the Lodge rooms for the regular meeting. The greeting tea and coffee were as warm and appreciated as would always be expected in Bridlington.

The agenda for the day was to open and conduct the regular business of the Lodge close and invite ladies and guests into the Lodge room.

It was then that the Worshipful Master David Burnett was able to welcome the Ladies and the special guest Mrs Win Tomlinson, the Fund Raising Administrator for St.Catherine's Hospice.

It was with great pleasure that Worshipful Brother Burnett presented a cheque for £2,950 on behalf of The Grand Charity to Win Tomlinson.

The Grand Charity is subscribed to by every member of every Lodge in England Wales, and annually disburses grants to Non – Masonic charities and on this occasion to a local Hospice. This of course is not the only Non –Masonic Charity or Hospice to benefit, locally four more Hospices will benefit and Nationally over £500,000 will be donated to Hospices alone.

Receiving the donation Win Tomlinson thanked the Grand Charity and the Bridlington Bay Lodge for the support that they had given to St.Catherine’s Hospice, and briefly described the work and benefit that derives from such generous donations.

The photograph shows Mrs Tomlinson receiving the cheque from, Worshipful Brother David Burnett and in the company of Worshipful Brother Michael de-Villamar Roberts who was on an official visit to the Lodge.

Freemasons Give to Local Charities

The third Annual Presentation Evening took place on the 20th May 2004 at the Masonic Hall, Roman Road in Middlesbrough. This year 30 Local Charities received in excess of £11,000 from the 12 Middlesbrough Masonic Lodges along with Zetland Ladies taking the total to £30,000, which has been donated to Local non Masonic Organisations over the last 3 years.

The beneficiaries are all local charities within the TeesValley area and range from The Great North Air Ambulance to the 42nd Middlesbrough Brownies together with a number of departments at the James Cook University Hospital. The Master of the Lodge usually decides which Charity will benefit, this differs from year to year and is quite often a Charity that one of the Lodge members is connected with, for example The Arthritis Research Campaign being supported by Acklam Lodge.

The Masonic Province of Yorkshire North and East Ridings and Freemasonry encourages support of our Local communities and John Trout one of the Assistant Provincial Grand Masters accompanied by Clive Gregory Chairman of the Provincial Grand Charity both attended the evening, to support the commitment Middlesbrough Masons have made to their community.

In all of these fund raising efforts we must acknowledge the INVALUABLE support given by the Wives, partners and girlfriends of our members.
