“The Youth Club for the sight impaired”

More children benefit from Masonic generosity

Earlier this year the Handyside Masonic Lodge at Saltburn held their annual Stewards Charity Social. The theme for this year was a Ceilidh at the Skelton Civic Centre and raised £500.

It is a custom in Masonic Lodges to support local communities.

The Youth Club for the sight impaired meets at the Middlesbrough Blind School and the Worshipful Master of the Handyside Lodge and his Charity Steward were pleased to represent their Lodge and present a cheque for £500.

The youth club is run on a voluntary basis, support and help is always appreciated.

BIG BOOST FOR CAMPSITE FUND

Scarborough and District Scout Association’s plans to modernise its campsite had a boost when The Provincial Grand Charity donated £1000.

The cheque was presented to the District and Deputy Scout Commissioners by three representatives of the Denison Lodge in the persons of the Almoner, Treasurer and Senior Warden.

The deputy district commissioner for Scarborough and District Scout Association, said “We were very pleased with the money we never expected all that. We have a lot of money to raise so we are very grateful.”

The site at Birch Hall near Langdale End needs updating and the local movement has to raise thousands of pounds to get the job done.

New showers and toilets are to be installed along with a modern kitchen, sleeping accommodation and disabled access will be improved.

The Provincial Grand Charity approved the donation following a petition from The Denison Lodge.

A report and picture of the presentation appeared in the Scarborough Evening Post on the 18th August 2004.

Chernobyl Children Lifeline

To help children suffering from the after effects of the Chernobyl disaster and economic situation.

The remit of the Chernobyl Children’s Life Line Link is to provide a four-week respite holiday, providing loving host parents, plenty of healthy food and lots of fresh air.

Following a petition to the Provincial Grand Charity of the Masonic Province of Yorkshire North and East Ridings from the Handyside Lodge based in Saltburn a sum of £500 was approved to assist Children’s Charity.

In acknowledging the support Margaret Cundall Chairman of the Charity said,
“ We express our most grateful thanks to your club for the funding to provide the children with a day to remember. The visit to Beamish was a huge success, the weather was very kind to us and the journey on a double decker bus was a real treat for the children, as they had not seen one let alone ride in one before. This visit was educational as well as fun. Thanks to organisations such as the Masons, over the month the children enjoyed so many experiences and left for their homeland happier and so much healthier than when they arrived”.
